If the reference is to the work as a whole then author and year of publication is used — for example, Murrell, A direct quote is referenced by including the page number, as in Murrell, , p.

The basic format is the same for all types of references. Up to six authors will follow the same pattern of last name and initials. Next is the year of publication in brackets. The title of the book or article is written with only the first letter capitalized unless there are proper names. Book titles are italicized while articles are simply written do not put quote marks around article titles. Next, write down the city and state, followed by a colon and then the publisher for the book.

An article has the title of the Journal which is italicized followed by the volume if there is an issue number as well, it is in brackets and then just the page number. All citations end with a period. Include your name and institution below the title. Double-spacing is fine here. It should look something like this: Make use of the page header. Every page of your paper, including the title page, should have a running header. Style it in all caps, and keep it under 50 characters. Set the page number in the upper right.

The page number should appear on the same line as the running header, all the way to the right. Set the page number to show up automatically on every subsequent page. Just write the title of your paper in regular type on the start of the next page, then begin writing your introduction on the line below it.

Your paper should have a 1-inch margin on all sides. At the top of each page, insert a running head in the header. To format this correctly, write the title of your proposal in the upper left hand side and the page number in the upper right hand side. Your running head is limited to 50 characters, including spaces. If you must shorten your title, select the keywords.

APA style recommends that your title is no more than 12 words in length. All text on this page should be double-spaced. When listing names, do not include any titles or degrees. The running head is different on the title page than the rest of your paper.

In APA format, your abstract is the second page of your paper. Despite appearing at the beginning of your paper, plan to write your research proposal last. This is a brief summary of your entire paper. In a to word paragraph, state your problem, and propose a solution for it.
